Last night a program about recycling in the UK. Dispatches reported that a number of recycling plants churn out a huge amount of tonnage in recycling but as usual the politicians hide the truth about working the system that will make the mass of rubbish work for us. About 15% of rejects leave the country by ship to go to third world countries to be resorted - madnes and environmently unfriendly. Taking humans out of the loop is not always the answer! A purer system which would also employ people is to sort the usable waste whilst collecting making the end reusable product more saleable. Create a cycle for employment and recycling.
Why chaos, speaking for my local area many of the measures now implemented by europe has made it even more difficult to recycle for example wood. The end product here is to sell the pulverised wood to the power stations but the carbon emisions level has been raised to meet new directives which ultimately stops some recycling. Councils do not work together to help each other - councils do not have similar recycling products which confuses the public, of which I am one.
Chaos can be about re-education but it is not always the public at fault for consumerism but bad policies that stop recycling. Will they ever get it right or are the steps they take truely enough?
